July 2, 2021 –Officials from Naval Air Systems Command at Patuxent River Naval Air Station ask Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems segment in Owego, NY to build the new MH-60R helicopters, one of the latest versions of the Sikorsky Seahawk, which is based on the US Army Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk utility helicopter.
The MH-60R multi-mission helicopters feature sophisticated sensors and are designed for anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare. The MH-60R is designed to operate from frigates, destroyers, cruisers and aircraft carriers. The helicopter has an articulated tail to reduce its necessary storage area on board ships.
The cockpit of the MH-60R also has secure VHF / UHF communication; inertial navigation system; satellite communications; data link; and housing for prospective infrared sensors and night vision goggles.
